About the portraits

Losing an eye changes far more than the way you see the world. It can affect your confidence, your independence and the way others see you.

Produced for the Dutch association Oog in Oog, this series of documentary portraits follows people of different ages and backgrounds who each have their own story to tell. From rare eye diseases and cancer to accidents and congenital conditions, every film explores the personal, medical and emotional journey behind life with one eye.

Rather than focusing on loss, the series highlights resilience, adaptation and the many different ways people rebuild their lives after their world has changed.
